The Grimsel connects the Bernese Oberland to the Valais over 2,164m of granite and reservoir lakes. The road is wide and well-maintained — easier than the Furka but more scenic in a different way. The dam wall at the top gives you a view over turquoise water that doesn't look like Switzerland. Surface is consistently good. Pairs naturally with the Furka and Susten for a three-pass day. The café at the summit is worth a stop. Watch for cyclists on the Gletsch side in summer.
