The Julier is one of the few Swiss alpine passes that stays open year-round, thanks to its comparatively gentle gradient and efficient snow clearance. At 2,284m it's no pushover, but the road is wide, well-maintained, and fast. The north side from Tiefencastel sweeps through open alpine meadows. The south side drops into the Engadin with views of the Silvaplanersee. Surface is consistently good. Used as a transit route since Roman times — the column ruins at the summit are original. A reliable all-season connector.
