The Albula climbs to 2,312m through some of Graubünden's best engineering — both the road and the railway viaducts alongside it are UNESCO-listed. The north side from Bergün is tight, technical, and shadowed by forest. The south side opens into the Engadin valley. Surface is good but narrower than the Julier. Not recommended for wide-body cars on the Bergün side where passing is tight on the hairpins. Pairs well with the Julier for a Graubünden loop. Open June to October. The railway spiral at Bergün is worth stopping for.
