Austria's highest paved pass at 2,504m and the centrepiece of the Grossglockner High Alpine Road. The summit section — Edelweißspitze — is a dead-end spur with a panorama over 30 peaks above 3,000m. The road itself is immaculate: fresh tarmac, clear markings, engineered hairpins. You pay for it — toll is around €40 per car. Worth every cent. The north side from Ferleiten is the better ascent, 12km of continuous climbing. Traffic is heavy in July and August. Go early or in September. Surface quality is the best of any alpine pass in Europe.
