The A8 east of Munich toward Salzburg has a partially derestricted section between the Inntal Dreieck and the Austrian border. The surface is good, the road is wide, and the alpine foothills start appearing on the horizon. Less consistently derestricted than the A9 — watch for temporary limits near Rosenheim. When it's open, it rewards. Two lanes each way on the unrestricted sections. Traffic is heavier than the A9 due to cross-border freight. Best on Sunday mornings when the lorries are parked. Views of the Chiemgau Alps on clear days.
